THE ZERO WASTE TAKEOUT SOLUTION FOR NEW YORKERS: INTRODUCING DELIVER ZERO
DELIVERY IN RE-USABLE CONTAINERS THAT YOU CAN RETURN RIGHT AT YOUR DOOR
with the pandemic, MORE THAN EVER, people have increased their reliance on food delivery services SUCH AS DoorDash, GrubHub, Postmates, etc. It seems to be an unavoidable tradeoff: if we want to support our local restaurants, we have to accept that we'll end up with single-use food containers as trash.DELIVER ZERO MIGHT BE THE SOLUTION TO INDULGE, SUPPORT, WHILE KEEPING SUSTAINABILITY IN MIND.
I have been wondering for a long time, why can't there be a food delivery service that uses reusable food containers that they then collect to get professionally cleaned and sanitized before reusing again?
Let me introduce Deliver Zero! They started in NYC, though I have hopes that either entrepreneurs in other cities will emulate this model, or Deliver Zero will keep expanding as they go.
DeliverZero was founded by Adam Farbiarz, Lauren Sweeney, and Byron Sorrells.
“Manufacturing, shipping, and disposing of the 1 billion takeout containers we throw away each year contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, a major factor in climate change. And then the containers—used once and for mere seconds—sit in landfills as far as 400 miles away from NYC. Here’s the thing: as busy New Yorkers, we really don’t want to stop ordering takeout. For many of us, it would be a significant lifestyle change. A few of us have never turned our ovens on.
So we came up with a solution.
It’s as easy as ordering through those other food delivery platforms. The difference? Your food arrives in reusable containers. Return the containers to the delivery person next time you order from any restaurant on the platform, or drop them off at any restaurant we work with. Yeah, it’s that simple.”
